“Therefore, tell the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Repent and turn away from your idols, and stop all your detestable sins. 7 I, the Lord, will answer all those, both Israelites and foreigners, who reject me and set up idols in their hearts and so fall into sin, and who then come to a prophet asking for my advice. 8 I will turn against such people and make a terrible example of them, eliminating them from among my people. Then you will know that I am the Lord. Ezekiel 14:6–8 (NLT)
Dear People of God, what are our modern idols of the heart?
Beloved 20th century Pastor and theologian A.W. Tozer summarized it perfectly: "Let us beware lest we in our pride accept the erroneous notion that idolatry consists only in kneeling before visible objects of adoration, and that civilized peoples are therefore free from it. The essence of idolatry is the entertainment of thoughts about God that are unworthy of Him. It begins in the mind and may be present where no overt act of worship has taken place."
Just because we are not bowing to visible idols does not mean that we are not harboring abominable lies about God in our hearts and minds.
May we honor Him as He is - Lord of lords, and King of kings! May our hearts desire to be with Him more than anything else in life.
God bless you. AMEN.
